Welcome to the Essential Oils Maker team!

I like to experiment in a lot of different areas and I have always been an avid gardener. A few years ago I got the idea to extract essential oils from the various things that were growing in my garden. It's been quite educational and I have had both successes and failures. I'd be interested in hearing other peoples experiences, or questions about the process.

Graham Condenser

Got a new 500mm 24/40 Graham condenser, which should be a major improvement over the 300mm liebig i was using, but the season is almost over and I'm not sure I'll even have time to test it out this year. (I put a pic in team pictures)

I use the lab glass type setup myself, there is something about the copper still that freaks me out. With copper you can't see what is happening...

Tried steam extracting mint last weekend, and though a lot of hydrosol was produced no detectable mint oil or menthol was produced... :(

This team explores methods and equipment for the distillation of essential oils through steam extraction. Both copper stills and lab glass methods will be examined. We will focus on trying to determine the ideal setup and conditions for extraction under a number of scenarios.

For example: rose oil requires double boiling, while a plant like lavender is trivial to process with steam.

So if you're into making essential oils, this may be the group for you.
